Box Score Amherst, Mass. - Despite winning the first set, 25-19, the Trinity College volleyball team fell, 3-1, to the Amherst College Mammoths on Friday night at LeFrak Gymnasium. The Bantams fall to 5-3 overall and 0-2 in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) while Amherst remains perfect at 8-0 and 2-0 in the conference. Trinity returns to action tomorrow for a pair of games at Rhode Island College, against the Anchormen and Plymouth State.
Trinity was led by senior co-captain Hanna Engstrom (Hopkinton, Mass.) who posted a .217 kill percentage with eight kills. Fellow co-captain Rachel Underwood (Danville, Calif.) finished with a team-high 12 kills and three aces while tallying 14 digs as well. Sophomore setter Jess Yang (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) had 31 assists and a pair of blocks while classmate Ali Odermann (Lenexa, Kan.) led the Bantams defensively with 19 digs.
For Amherst, Jamie Dailey (Newport Coast, Calif.) finished with a match-best 16 kills while Charlotte Duran (Newport Beach, Calif.) led all players with 32 assists and Skyleur Savage (San Jose, Calif.) tallied 21 digs.
Trinity won set one by a score of 25-19 thanks to 14 kills and the Mammoths hitting just .022. Despite the early 1-0 lead, the Mammoths came back to win the next three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-17 to come away with the victory.
