Hartford, Conn. - The Trinity College volleyball team swept Plymouth State in game one before grinding out a 3-2 victory over host Rhode Island College in a pair of matches on Saturday in Providence. The Bantams improve to 7-3 on the year with the doubleheader sweep and return to the court next Friday for a home New England Small College Athletic College (NESCAC) versus in-state rival Wesleyan University.

Trinity won the first match by set scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-22. Bantam junior Wyllie Boughton (Andover, Mass.) led all players with 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage. Boughton also had a pair of aces while sophomore Jess Yang (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) tallied a match-high 26 assists and sophomore Ali Odermann (Lenexa, Kan.) tied a match-best 13 digs. The Bantams combined for a .237 hitting percentage while the Panthers hit just .058 with 16 errors.

Against the hosts, junior Colette Scheffers (Flossmoor, Ill.) led the way with 14 kills, five digs and a pair of blocks. Rookie Ally Conde (Danielson, Conn.) and senior co-captain Hanna Engstrom (Hopkinton, Mass.) both recorded ten kills for the Bantams while Yang continued her strong play with 40 assists, nine digs and two blocks. RIC registered a .179 hitting percentage in the loss, while Trinity hit .197 in the contest.

RIC took set one, 25-19, before the Bantams came back and took sets two and three, 25-19 and 25-22, respectively. The Anchormen came back to win the fourth set 25-17 to force a deciding fifth set. In set five, Trinity jumped out to an 8-5 advantage after a kill by Boughton. Scheffers recorded a kill to make it 12-8 before an ace by Yang made it 13-8 and a kill by Engstrom eventually clinched the match.
