Trinity Women's Tennis Falls Just Short On The Road At California Lutheran

Thousand Oaks, Calif. - Seniro Christie Kurdys (Boca Raton, Fla.) won in doubles and in straight sets in singles to lead the California Lutheran University Regals to a 5-4 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in women's tennis action this afternoon at Poulson Courts.  Trinity falls to 1-3 with its second setback in a row, finishing its West Coast swing over spring break with a 1-2 mark.  California Lutheran improves to 8-1 with its eighth win in a row.  Trinity junior Elena Pellegrini (Leghorn,Italy) was stellar with an 8-7 triumph at first doubles with partner Julia Brogan (Falmouth, Maine) and a dominant, 6-1, 6-2 win over California Lutheran's Lilijana Peters-Semak (Pine Grove Mills, Pa.) at the top of the singles lineup.

Trinity nearly took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, but Kurdys and Peter Semak narrowly edged Bantam junior tri-captain Jillian Winer (Bolton, Mass.) and first-year Marta Drausnik (Zagreb, Croatia) at the No. 2 position, 8-7, with a 7-1 win in the tiebreaker.  Wins in straight sets by Pellegrini and Winer, who won, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot, gave the Bantams three points, and a 7-5, 4-6 (10-8) triumph by Trinity rookie Ashley Walker (New Canaan, Conn.) at the bottom of the singles ladder made it four.  The difference in singles came at the No. 2 position, where Regal senior Sarah Seeman (Port Washington, N.Y.) edged Drausnik, 6-4, 4-6 (10-4), and a two other wins by the home team in singles gave California Lutheran a narrow victory.
