Clinton, N.Y. - Junior tri-captain Jillian Winer (Bolton, Mass.) and classmate Julia Brogan (Falmouth, Maine) both won in singles and doubles, but the Trinity College Bantams dropped a 5-4 decision against the Hamilton College Continentals in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's tennis action this afternoon indoors at the Margaret Bundy Field House. Trinity falls to 3-9 overall and 1-7 in the NESCAC with its second 5-4 setback in a row. The Continentals improve to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference with their second-straight win. The Bantams visit No. 4-ranked Wesleyan in a conference match on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., while Hamilton entertains William Smith on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
Brogan and junior Elena Pellegrini (Leghorn, Italy) won a close match at first doubles, 8-5, while Winer and first-year Marta Drausnik (Zagreb, Croatia) posted an 8-4 victory at second doubles to give Trinity a 2-1 lead entering singles play. Winer dominated at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph, while Brogan outlasted Hamilton's Jane Haffer , 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7) at third singles to give Trinity four points. The Continentals won at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 singles in straight sets, and Continental freshman Rebecca Ingber edged Trinity first-year Ashley Walker (New Canaan, Conn.), 6-7, 6-1, 7-6 (0), to clinch the victory for the home team.
