Volleyball Dominates Western Connecticut, Earns Third Straight Shutout Victory

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. — The Trinity College women's volleyball program needed just over an hour in Wednesday night's contest, upending Western Connecticut inside Oosting Gymnasium, 3-0. The Bantams (3-2), gave Western Connecticut its first loss of the season, dropping the Colonials to 5-1 while earning its third-straight shutout victory.

Senior Colette Scheffers (Andover, Mass.) had another impressive performance, hitting a whopping .556 on the evening with 11 kills through 18 attempts.

Trinity allowed less than 16 points each set. After a 25-15 first set, the Bantams gave up a season-low eight points in the second set. Playing even with the visitors through the first 6 points of set two, sophomore Locke Luhnow (Encino, Calif.) broke it open, serving 12 straight points while notching three aces and six of Scheffers's 11 kills.

The hosts went on to win the third set by a final score of 25-14. Freshman Molly Bernstein (Oakland, Calif.) earned a game-high three blocks for the third straight game, with sophomore Ally Conde (Danielson, Conn.) chipping in two. For the second time in three seasons, Trinity has dropped Western Connecticut in straight sets, and has taken three of the last five contests.

Trinity is back at home Saturday, September 14, for its first tri-match of the season. The team will host two unfamiliar opponents, taking on Simmons at 11 a.m. and Southern Maine at 3 p.m.
