Box Score Waterville, Maine - The visiting Trinity College Bantams lost, 3-1, against the Colby College Mules in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 15 in the nation, falls to 1-1 overall with the loss in its conference opener. Colby is now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the league. Trinity visits New England tomorrow at noon.
After an uneventfull first quarter that saw just a single shot fired, Trinity struck first when senior tri-captain midfielder Nicole Quinlan (Duxbury, Mass.) scored after a slew of Bantam penalty corners midway through the second frame. Trinity finished the first half with a 5-to-2 shooting edge but managed just a single shot after the break. Lauren Walter scored the game-tying goal for Colby from Kaitlyn Smith 11:10 into the third quarter, and Emily Hogan converted on a feed by Eliza Mell for the go-ahead goal in the second minute of the fourth quarter. Smith added an insurance goal with 10:41 remaining in the contest. Trinity junior goalie Sydney Olstein (Lyme, Conn.) made two saves, while Emily Buckman had five stops for the Mules.
