#17 Field Hockey Suffers Loss to #7 Bowdoin

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. — The Trinity College field hockey program suffered its third NESCAC loss of the season, falling at home to #7 Bowdoin College, 4-2. The Polar Bears (7-1) ripped 13 shots on net, forcing freshman goaltender Emma Cropper (Wilton, Conn.) to make nine saves in the setback.

It took less than three minutes for the visitors to get on the scoreboard, using an unassisted goal from junior Elizabeth Growney (New Canaan, Conn.) to take an early lead. Just three minutes later, a feed from junior Elle Brine (Hanover, N.H.) set up freshman Manveer Sandhu (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) to double the score.

It wasn't until early in the second quarter before Trinity scored, slicing the deficit in half with plenty of time to spare. Sophomore Caelin Flaherty (Upton, Mass.) buried an unassisted goal – her fourth of the season – to give the Bantams life.

The Polar Bears responded, however, scoring two more goals in bunches – freshman Georgie Coetzer (Johannesburg, South Africa) earned an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute, and junior Kara Finnerty (Hopkinton, Mass.) fed classmate Emma Stevens (Darien, Conn.) in the 27th minute. The Bantams pushed for a late comeback, seeing a third quarter goal from senior Caroline Curtin (Andover, Mass.), with the assist credited to junior Kendall Brown (Greenwich, Conn.), but couldn't get anything going in the second half.

Trinity trailed Bowdoin in total shots (15-11), ad penalty corners (6-3). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, taking on Connecticut College on the road. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
