Trinity Football Hammers Hamilton For Coach Devanney's 100th Win

CLINTON, N.Y. – Junior QB Spencer Fetter (Winter Haven, Fla.) threw for 330 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 34-7 victory at Hamilton College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) football matchup this afternoon at Steuben Field. Trinity extends its flawless season to 4-0 and remains atop the NESCAC alongside Williams and Wesleyan.  Hamilton drops to 2-2.  The victory gives Bantam Head Coach Jeff Devanney 100 wins in his career, as the Bantam graduate boasts a career mark of 100-19 for a .840 winning percentage.  The Bantams return home to take on Bates (1-3) on Saturday, October 16 at 1 p.m. Hamilton faces a touch matchup next week when they host Williams.

Following a scoreless first quarter highlighted by a huge sack by DL Joe Lepore (Winchester, Mass.) to force a 3rd-and-27 and eventual punt, Trinity reached the end zone in the first minute of the second quarter on a 10-play, 76-yard drive that culminated in a 14-yard pass from Fetter to senior WR DeVante Reid (London, England).  On Trinity's next two drives, Fetter connected twice for touchdowns with senior WR Jonathan Girard (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), one from 27 yards out and another from 16 yards out to make it 20-0. On the second touchdown reception, Girard broke the record for career touchdown receptions at Trinity with his 24th career touchdown, just one week after breaking the record for career receiving yards. Trinity's defense looked strong in the second quarter as well, as junior LB Mike Masse (Dedham, Mass.) swatted a ball to force a punt and junior CB Darren Warren (West Haven, Conn.) broke up a pass to force a turnover on downs.

In the second half, Trinity kept their foot on the gas and scored another touchdown on its opening drive, once again from Fetter to Girard, from 14 yards out to make it 27-0. On Hamilton's next possession, Bantam senior DB Aidan Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior S William Crowley teamed up to break up a pass and force a 3-and-out. Getting the ball back, Trinity marched down the field on an 11-play, 62-yard drive that ended on a six-yard touchdown toss from Fetter to sophomore RB William Kirby (Darien, Conn.).  The defense made two more stops, helped by a tackle for loss by senior DE Noah Glantz (Scarsdale, N.Y.) to push Hamilton inside their own five-yard line on the first drive and heavy pressure by the Bantams defensive line to force an incomplete pass on third down on Hamilton's next possession.

Fetter finished with 29 completions in 34 attempts and Girard finished the day with a remarkable 153 yards on 11 receptions including the three scores. Reid also had a nice day, finishing with an impressive 73 yards on seven catches and a touchdown.  Kirby had a big day both on the ground and in the air despite a first half fumble, rushing 18 times for 107 yards and catching 6 balls for 50 yards, including the touchdown catch.  Hamilton QB Joe Cairns completed just 10 of 33 pass attempts for 174 yards, before Matt Banbury relieved him and threw a late touchdown pass.  Hamilton's leading receiver and lone scorer was WR Saleh Eltayeb with three catches for 64 yards, including the 25-yard touchdown grab. Hamilton's ground game never found its footing, recording just 23 yards on 19 attempts.  The Bantams' defense was impressive, allowing just 273 total yards from Hamilton in comparison to the Bantams' 543 yards of offense. Bantam junior LB Cade Klarides-Ditria (Seymour, Conn.) led the team with five tackles and Lepore finished the day with 2.5 sacks.
