BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Trinity College Bantams advanced to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Quarterfinals for the sixth time with a 2-0 victory over the No. 6-ranked Kean University Wildcats this afternoon at Babson College's McDowell Field. Trinity, ranked No. 10 nationally, received goals from senior captain
Caelin Flaherty (Upton, Mass.) and sophomore
Katrina Winfield (Wilmington, Del.) less than six minutes apart early in the second half to account for all of the game's scoring. The Bantams improve to 14-5 and will face No. 3-ranked Babson in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 1 p.m. on McDowell Field. Kean sees its season end at 19-3.
The game was even but scoreless at halftime with each team putting three shots in goal and both Trinity sophomore
Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) and Kean's Jenna Flemings saving all three. Flaherty scored the game's first goal, her 20th of the year, 4:14 into the third quarter with a blast from the right side past Flemings on the first shot of the second half. Moments later, Bantam sophomore
Jackie Frank (Longmeadow, Mass.) sent a long pass into the circle that Winfield quickly smacked into the cage to give Trinity a 2-0 lead with 6:02 remaining in the third quarter. Trinity did not take a shot and Kean took four, with three off the mark and one blocked by a Bantam, in the scoreless fourth quarter. Neither goalie had to make a save in the second half.
