HARTFORD, Conn. – Juniors
Samantha Gallo (Northford, Conn.) and
Bria Fuller (Springdale, Md.) combined for 33 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Trinity College women's basketball team to a 74-58 win over Fisher College on Tuesday night in Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams who have won their last three game, improve to 5-2 on the year while Fisher College drops to 3-7. Trinity resumes home court action Friday at 5 p.m. against Union College.
Fisher scored the night's opening bucket on a 3-pointer from Misha O'Neal and led for the majority of the first quarter before Gallo gave the Bantams their first lead of the game (15-13) on a layup in the paint. Trinity entered the halftime break with a nine point lead with the bulk of its scoring coming from the free-throw line, sinking 11 of its 13 attempts in the first half.
Back-to-back layups from Fuller gave the Blue and Gold its largest lead of the game at 18 with just under four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Trinity shot 47.3 % from the field and dropped 44 points in the paint. Defensively, the Bantams recorded 10 steals on the night, led by senior
Bailey Hyland (Broad Brook, Conn.) who tallied a season-high five takeaways. Sophomore
Tori Varsamis (Belmont, Mass.) led the team from deep shooting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and finishing with 10 points while first-year
Indianna DelRocco (Branford, Conn.) added 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and a steal. Gallo registered her second-straight game with 17 points. Fuller finished the night with 16 points and a season-high eight rebounds.
