Hartford, Conn. - Trinity College women's squash senior co-captain Min Jie Teh (Klang, Malaysia) and senior Campbell Brown (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) each received a 2021 College Squash Association (CSA) Scholar Athlete Award, while the pair also joined Bantam juniors Farran Brown (London, England), Sarahi Lopez (Zapopan, Mexico), Amina Taher (Alexandria, Egypt), and Nadiia Usenko (Kiev, Ukraine) and sophomore Nanna Carleke (Karlskrona, Sweden) on the 2020-21 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Winter All-Academic Team. Trinity women's squash, coached by Wendy Bartlett, is not competing this year but have been practicing hard in preparation for the 2021-22 season.
The Scholar-Athlete Award was granted this season to varsity juniors or seniors who have played on the team throughout their college career, have earned at least two varsity letters, would have been eligible to compete this season, and achieved a high academic standing at their institution.
Teh was recently honored as one of just three finalists in the nation for the coveted Betty Richey Award, and is a two-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree. She earns the CSA National Scholar Athlete honor for the second year in a row. Teh emerged as Trinity's No. 1 player and posted a 12-5 record against the nation's toughest competition in 2019-20. She was honored as the 2020 NESCAC Player of the Year and repeated on the All-NESCAC First Team as a junior. The NESCAC Rookie of the Year and an All-NESCAC Second Team honoree in 2017-18, Teh made the CSA All-American Second Team three years ago and the CSA All-American First Team in 2018-19 when she reached the CSA National Singles Championship Quarterfinals. Trinity has not played any varsity matches this season due to COVID-19, and Teh has spent both semesters of her senior campaign studying remotely. A graduate of Nujit Jalil Sports High School, Teh is majoring in computer science at Trinity. She is the daughter of daughter of Sui Leok Loh and Keng Chai Teh.
Campbell Brown, a two-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree, finished her college career with a varsity record of 6-11. A graduate of Dana Hall High School, she is the daughter of Brooke and Eric Brown. Farran Brown, a graduate of Wycombe Abbey High School, is majoring in political science at Trinity. She is the daughter of Farran Tozer Brown '89 and Dr. Robert Brown.
Lopez, a CSA First Team All-American and an All-NESCAC First Teamer in 2019 and 2020, finished second on the Bantam squad in wins and winning percentage with a 17-3 mark playing in the top third of the Trinity lineup in 2019-20. She went 14-2 in dual matches, including a 2-1 record in the Howe Cup and closed the campaign by going 3-1 in the CSA National Singles Championship "A" Division Ramsay Tournament to win the consolation title. The 2018-19 NESCAC Rookie and Player of the Year, had reached the CSA National Singles Championship Quarterfinals as a first-year in 2019. Lopez is a graduate of 3 University of Guadalajara High School and is majoring in International Studies at Trinity. She is the daughter of Maria de La Luz López Domínguez.
Taher, who repeats on the NESCAC All-Academic Team, registered a 10-5 record in 2019-20 and went 1-1 in the Howe Cup that winter. A graduate of German High School, she is the daughter of Aya Elkaragry and Karim Taher. Usenko, who repeats on the NESCAC All-Academic Team, went 15-5 in the middle of the Trinity lineup last winter and earned All-NESCAC Second Team honors. A graduate of Collegium Olimp, Usenko is majoring in language and cultural studies at Trinity. She is the daughter of Olesia Tretiakova and Oleksii Usenko. Carleke went 16-7 as a rookie starter for the Bantams in 2019-20. A graduate of Af Chapmangymnasiet Karlskrona, Carleke is majoring in economics at Trinity. She is the daughter of Helen Hansonn Carleke and Par Carleke.
