HARTFORD, Conn. – For the first time in 10 years, the Trinity College wrestling team defeated Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), as the Bantams took down the Engineers 37-15 on Saturday afternoon in the Trinity Field House. The Bantams also squared off with Rodger Williams University and Johnson & Wales University but fell in those two matches, 34-25 and 44-9, respectively. Trinity resumes action against Johnson & Wales on Sunday, Jan. 23 for a 9:30 a.m. showdown in Providence, R.I.
Senior captain
Kevin Lyskawa (Londonderry, N.H.) won all three of his matches at the 165 pound division on Saturday, defeating Rodger Williams' Jacob Cardozo by pin and picking up two decision wins against WPI's Ryan Powers (5-2) and Johnson and Wales' Scott Defex (4-2).
Aside from Lyskawa in the win over WPI, Trinity's other scorers consisted of
Chris Perry (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.),
Nicholas Crotty (Framingham, Mass.),
Adam Frost (Bennington, Vt.) and Booker Lester (Sturbridge, Mass.), as well as
John O'Brien (Reading, Mass.) who was awarded a win via forfeit. Frost and Lester won via pin while each of the other aforementioned Bantams earned victories by decision.
Frost's pin over Adam Marsh of WPI was his second on the day as he early bested Rodger Williams' Jayden Curley. Junior
Jacob Marselli (Tolland, Conn.) and first-year
Aidan Hebert (Bethany, Conn.) also each pinned their opponents in the first round against Rodger Williams while junior
Anders Klass (Braintree, Mass.) earned a second round pin triumph over Johnson & Wales Dominic Pugliese at the 184 pound division.
