Trinity Men's Swimming And Diving Falls Just Short In Meet At Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – The visiting Trinity College Bantams and the Wheaton College Lyons men's swimming and diving meet came down to the final relay, and the Lyons came through with a 152-135 victory this afternoon at Balfour Natatorium.  Trinity drops to 0-5 and the Lyons improve to 3-7.  Trinity, which hosts Springfield in the final dual meet of the season and its lone home event of the winter next Saturday at 1 p.m., won nine of 16 events.

Trinity closed to within 84-78 through nine events after junior Karl Wadleigh (Darien, Conn.) won his second race of the day with a time of 48.52 in the 100-yard freestyle. Trinity stayed close and trailed, 140-130, heading into the final relay, needing to take first and second to win the meet by a single point.  The two Bantams foursomes finished just .05 seconds apart at 1:28.71 and 1:28.76, respectively, but settled for second and third with the Wheaton relayers recording a winning time of 1:27.11.  

Wadleigh had also won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.25, while first-year Matthew Brown (Nahant, Mass.) won a pair of events as well, taking first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.67) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:14.70).  Sophomore Jackson Camporin (New Canaan, Conn.) won on both the one and three-meter diving boards for Trinity. He posted a score of 245.20 on the three-meter board, before racking up 249.90 points on the one-meter board for the win. Junior Liam Colleran (Norwalk, Conn.) touched the wall first in the 50-yard backstroke after sprinting to a time of 24.42. Sophomore Ben Lundy (Woodberry Forest, Va.) topped the field in a sprint as well, taking the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 23.58. Junior Quin Woods (Lincoln, Neb.) picked up a win for the visitors as well, with a mark of 2:14.78 to take the 200-yard breaststroke.
