Trinity Men's Indoor Track and Field Enjoys Solid Day at Massasoit Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Trinity College indoor men's track and field team traveled to Springfield College to compete in the Massasoit Classic on Saturday. The Bantams faced competition from around the region including American International, Bridgewater State, Westfield State and the host school of Springfield in what was a non-scoring format meet. Up next, Trinity will head to Boston, Mass. for the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday, Jan. 28.
 
First-year Ethan Wilkie (Ellington, Conn.) won the shot put with a mark of 14.75 meters and placed second in the weight throw with a toss of 14.63 meters while the 1 Mile Run saw junior Travis Martin (New Haven, Conn.) taking the crown (4:17.75) with senior Tim Lautenbach (Weston, Conn.) following shortly behind (4:22.84) as the runner-up.
 
In the sprints, sophomore Kai Bailin (Shutesbury, Mass.) posted a 51.72 second 400 meter dash which was good for a third place finish while first-year Jonathan Sundermeier (Atlanta, Ga.) placed seventh with a time of 54.56. Meanwhile, Darren Warren (West Haven, Conn.) placed fifth in the 200 Meter Dash (23.20) while Benjamin Trotter (Westford, Mass.) finished seventh (23.71).
 
At the mid-distance, first-year James Maciel Andrews (New Haven, Conn.) earned a fourth place finish in the 600 meter run (1:40.91) while long-distance runner Dylan Idleman (Rancho Mission Viejo, Calif.) placed sixth in the 3000 meter (9:59.51).
 
In the field events, senior Kinnard Hughes (Chicago, Ill.) finished third in both the long jump (6.67m) and the triple jump (14.10m) while Andrew Moran (Mendham, N.J.) placed ninth in the shot with a 11.29m mark and 11th in the weight throw with a 10.42m distance. 
 
The Bantams capped off the day by placing both second and third in the 4x400 with the "A" group of Martin, Lautenbach, Sam Strymish (Newton, Mass.) and Larson Sippel (Northhampton,Mass.) clocking a time of 3:35.36, while the "B" relay of Bailin, Warren, Trotter and first-year Pedro Mateo (Immokalee, Fla.) finished right on their tails with a 3:35.55 time.
