WORCESTER, Mass. – In its first game in over three weeks, the Trinity College women's basketball team was defeated by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) 46-56, on Tuesday night in Worcester, Mass. The Bantams fall to 7-3 on the year, ending a five-game winning streak while WPI improves 10-1 overall. Next up on the schedule for Trinity is a 7 p.m. conference tilt at Bowdoin College on Friday.
Sophomore center
Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) led the Bantams in the first half with 10 points, shooting 5-for-5 from the field and helping her team to a three point lead heading into the break. However, after being outscored by the Bantams in the first two quarters, the Engineers manufactured a 15-4 third quarter behind Melanie Presseau and Allison McMorrow who combined for 12 points and shot 5-for-6 from the field.
Leading 46-42 with six minutes remaining, WPI went on an eight point run with three pointers from Presseau and Alex Scariati followed by a jumper from Kara O'Neil to extended the lead to 12 for the Engineers' largest lead of the game with two minutes to go. Tori Varsamis (Belmont, Mass.) led the Bantams with 12. WPI shot 9-for-23 from beyond the arc as Trinity sunk just one of its 12 attempts from deep in the contest.
