Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Topples Williams College in Second-Straight Conference Shutout

HARTFORD, Conn. – Goals from sophomore Casey Rhodes (Huntington Beach, Calif,) and junior Riley Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) led the Trinity College men's ice hockey team over New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) rival Williams College in a 2-0 shutout victory at Koeppel Community Sports Center on Saturday night. The Bantams improve to 6-4-0 with a 4-2-0 mark in conference play while Williams drops to 5-4-0 and picks up its second NESCAC loss with a 5-2-0 record. Trinity travels to Bowdoin College for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Polar Bears on Friday, Jan. 14 as Williams takes on Wesleyan University on the road tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Following a tripping penalty just over three minutes into action, the Bantams had the game's first power play and made efficient work of the man-up opportunity as sophomore Devan Tongue (Hampden, Mass.) carried the puck up the ice and split two defenders before dishing to a slashing Prattson who lifted the puck across the face of the goaltender and into the top left corner of the net for the night's opening goal.

The second period failed to see any scoring action from either side, however, first-year goaltender Patrick Pugliese (Pasadena, Calif.) shined in net collecting 19 saves through the game's first two frames and finished the night with a total of 22 for his third shutout win of the 2021-22 season.

In the third period, Trinity added the game's final tally as Rhodes carried the puck up the middle of the ice and passed left side to senior Lucas Michaud (South Portland, Maine) who fired an attempt that ricocheted off of the goalie but was quickly followed up and tucked away by Rhodes to give the Blue and Gold a 2-0 lead with eight minutes remaining in the contest. Prattson's goal marks his first of the season while Rhodes score was good for his fourth while Tongue and Michaud recorded thier second and seventh assists, respectively. Williams goaltender Evan Ruschil registered 30 saves in net for the Ephs.
