Field Hockey Bested by Middlebury in NCAA Quarterfinals

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Despite Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Penn.) nabbing nine saves in the box for the Trinity College field hockey team, the #9 Bantams dropped a 3-0 contest to #2 Middlebury College in the NCAA Quarterfinals on the road at Kohn Field on Sunday. Trinity finished its season 15-5 overall, while the Panthers improved to 19-1 on the season.

Ten minutes into the first quarter, the Panthers drew a penalty corner and the home team made two quick shots within ten seconds were blocked by a pair of Bantams to keep the scoreboard clean. Thirty seconds later, Middlebury another penalty corner opportunity by Sadie LeStrange connected with the net off the stick of Hannah Medwar and notched the first goal of the outing. LeStrange's goal tapped in off the left goal poast following the pass from Medwar.

Middlebury padded the lead with another goal by Katie George as she slipped and fell to her knees eight minutes into the third quarter, followed by a reverse shot while Amy Griffin drove to the left etched the third and final goal of the contest. Ashley Zigler (Falls Church, Va.) had a pair of back-to-back shots six minutes into the fourth quarter to shorten the deficit by one goal but Grace Harlan saved both.

Middlebury outshot Trinity 24-3 as Zigler aimed two at the target and Caelin Flaherty's (Upton, Mass.) shot was blocked by a Panther three seconds prior to Zigler's first attempt in the final quarter.
