HARTFORD, Conn – The eighth Bantams of the Week of the 2022 fall season has been selected thanks to their impressive performances on the court and the gridiron. Trinity volleyball senior co-captain Molly Bernstein (Oakland, Calif.) and football senior DL Cooper Mandel (Ramsey, N.J.) have been named as the Bantams of the Week.
Each week, the Trinity athletics website will spotlight two exceptional student-athletes – one male, one female – as the Bantams of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition from the previous week.
Bernstein led the Bantams to two wins including a 3-2 victory against Hamilton that clinched Trinity's first postseason appearance since 2018. The senior had six kills, five digs, nine blocks and hit .400 against the Continentals. Bernstein finished the week hitting .400 with 22 kills, 11 digs, and 19 blocks. The Bantams, which also blanked Framingham State, 3-0, and lost to Middlebury, 3-1, last week, as Bernstein had 10 kills with just one error, an ace, three digs, and seven blocks against the Rams and six kills, an ace, three digs, and three blocks against the Panthers. The Bantams will open NESCAC Championship Tournament play against Tufts at Wesleyan on Friday.
Mandel made eight tackles and batted down two passes in Trinity's 38-3 win against Bowdoin. Mandel was also in on a sack and helped Trinity hold Bowdoin to 240 total yards and a 40 percent completion percentage passing the ball. Mandel has 17 tackles and three pass breakups this season. The Bantams are alone in first place in the NESCAC at 7-0 and visit Bates on Saturday.
