BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Trinity College men's ice hockey team was eliminated from the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament in Saturday night's first round falling to No. 5 Babson College 3-0 at the Babson Skating Center in Babson Park, Mass. The Bantams close out their 2022 season with a 17-8-1 record while the Beavers improve to 20-5-2 and advance to the quarterfinals to take on SUNY Geneseo on Saturday March 19.
Babson put the night's first tally on the boar just under two minutes into the second period when Ryan Campbell gained control of the puck inside the Trinity attack zone and took it up ice slashing in from the right side circle and firing point blank for the unassisted goal. With a 1-0 lead in the third, Mike Egan's initial shot was saved by sophomore goaltender
J.P. Mella (South Glastonbury, Conn.) but Ryan Black cleaned up the ricochet for the goal to extend the Beaver's lead to two scores, 6:38 into the night's final frame. Babson added a third and final empty net insurance goal with just over a minute remaining thanks to John Corrigan who tapped the puck home.
Mella made 21 saves in net for the Bantams while Beavers goaltender Brad Arvanitis recorded 27 stops for the home team. Trinity went 0-2 on the power play while Babson scored all three of its goals at even strength and did not see a power play opportunity throughout the contest.
