Trinity Men's Lacrosse Wins At Salve Regina

Box Score MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams pulled away from the Salve Regina University Seahawks for a 13-9 victory in men's lacrosse action this evening at Gaudet Field.  Junior attackman Bill Puccio (Garden City, N.Y.) scored four goals and senior attackman Jack Cahill (Medfield, Mass.) added three goals, including the go-ahead tally in the second quarter, for the Bantams who improve to 3-2.  The Seahawks drop to 2-3.  The Bantams will visit Endicott College next on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The game was played evenly and the teams were tied, 3-3, after one quarter.  Cahill scored his third goal of the game with 5:13 remaining before halftime, giving Trinity the lead for good at 6-5.  Sophomore Tyler DeSimone (St. James, N.Y.) assisted Cahill on the play.  Bantam junior Ryan Werner (Weston, Conn.) and Puccio followed with unassisted goals before the break.  Puccio scored two of three Trinity goals in the third, helping the Bantams to an 11-7 lead with one quarter left.  Trinity senior attackman Connor McCulloch (Alexandria, Va.) opened the fourth with a goal and the Bantams maintained at least a four-goal advantage to the end.

The statistics were near even except for Trinity's 42-to-28 shooting advantage.  Salve's Ryan Chambers and Trinity sophomore Cooper Yaccino (Kenilworth, Ill.) made 14 saves apiece, while sophomore face-off man Dane Crowley (Pelham, N.Y.) won 11 of 21 attempts with 12 ground balls, and junior defenseman Ethan Tym (New Rochelle, N.Y.) collected three ground balls and two caused turnovers.  Werner, McCulloch, and junior Andrew Fearey (Duxbury, Mass.) scored twice each and Werner also assisted on a third score.
