HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior
Michaela Russell (Boston, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored to lead the Trinity College softball team to a 7-4 win over New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Bates College on Sunday morning at the Trinity Softball Field. Trinity takes down Bates for the third-straight game this weekend and improves to 8-6 overall with a 3-0 mark in conference play while the visiting Bobcats shift to 3-8 (0-3 NESCAC). Russell and company resume action Tuesday at 3 p.m. hosting a double header against Mitchell College in what will be the Bantams last two home contests until April 27 following nine straight games on the road.
Trinity scored three runs in the bottom of the first as junior
Alyssa Gazivoda (Poughquag, N.Y.), senior
Alex Chambers (East Lyme, Conn.) and sophomore
Kennedy Rogers (Pomona, Calif.) each tallied first at bat RBIs. Bates added two in the second but the Bantams never surrendered their first inning lead, as Rogers ripped her second-straight RBI double in the third inning to once again score Chambers from first. Sophomore
Gianna Tito (East Hanover, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice in the fourth, scoring Russell from third and first-year
Taylor Mikolajczak (John's Creek, Ga.) reached on dropped fly ball by the left fielder which enabled her to take second as senior
Maura Keary (Fairfield, Conn.) scored from third. Gazivoda then grounded out to short but Mikolajczak scored from third to give Trinity a 7-3 lead in the sixth.
Rogers and Gazivoda each registered a pair of RBIs while Mikolajczak, Chambers and Tito each tallied one. Rogers went 2-for-3, Mikolajczak finished with one hit and one run scored and Chambers went 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Sophomore
Tiffany Stowers (Burke, Va.) earned the win for the Bantams in the circle pitching four innings as senior
Jordan Stephan (South Orange, N.J.) relieved her in the fifth. The two right-handers combined for seven strikeouts.
