Trinity Women's Lacrosse Wins Against Connecticut College

Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior attacker Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) collected three goals and three assists to lead the Trinity College Bantans to a 13-7 victory over the visiting Connecticut College Camels in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's lacrosse action this evening at Sheppard Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 18 in the nation, improves to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the NESCAC, while the Camels fall to 5-5 overall and remains winless at 0-5 in the league.  The Bantams will host conference foe Bowdoin, ranked No. 14 nationally, on Saturday at noon and will also welcome back the 2012 NCAA Champion Trinity squad for a celebration of the 10th anniversary of that historic season.

Trinity opened the game strong, beginning with the first goal of the contest by Ives 3:41 into the contest.  Bantam senior Christine Taylor (Westport, Conn.) scored the first of her three goals at the 7:22 mark of the first quarter, and then fed classmagte Ellie Kirkpatrick (Bryn Mawr, Pa.) for a goal with 4:43 on the clock.  Kirkpatrick added another tally 29 seconds later from junior Lilianna Khosrowshahi (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) to give the Bantams a 4-0 lead at the first break.  Connecticut College Emily Yorn scored twice in a row in the second stanza to cut Trinity's advantage in half.  Taylor helped ignite a 3-0 Trinity run when she assisted sophomore Casey Ward () who beautifully one-timed the ball low past Camel goalie Violette Nidds with 5:29 remaining in the first half. Khosrowshahi and Taylor finished the run before Julianna Ingrassia scored for the Camels with 18 seconds left t make it, 7-3, in Trinity's favor at intermission.

Ives had two goals and one assist in the third quarter to offset two Camel scores, and added two more helpers on a pair of Khosrowshahi goals in the fourth.  Khosrowshahi fed classmate Grace Coe (Chatham, N.J.) for Trinity's last goal.  Yorn assisted Ingrassia on a goal and Aine Downey scored late for Connecticut College in the final frame.  Trinity outshot the Camels, 35-14, and forced 23 turnovers while committing 16.  The Bantams also finished with a 20-to-13 edge on ground balls and won 13 of 21 draw controls.  Trinity senior tri-captain Samantha Booma (Marblehead, Mass.) won a game-high seven draw controls, while classmate Emma Alpaugh (Darioen, Conn.) notched five draw controls, three caused turnovers, and three ground balls. junior Alisyn McNamara (New Hampton, N.H.) added a team-high four caused turnovers an dthree ground balls, and senior tri-captain goalie Gabriella Young (Raleigh, N.C.) finished with four saves.  Nidds was solid in goal for the Camels with 12 stops.
