Softball Completes Three-Game Sweep over Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine – First-year Taylor Mikolajczak (John's Creek, Ga.) went 5-for-8 with four RBIs and one run scored to lead the Trinity College softball team to a sweep over Bowdoin College, taking the first game 16-6 and the second game 4-2 on Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play. The Bantams improve to 13-6 with a 5-0 mark in the conference while Bowdoin slides to 8-12 (0-6 NESCAC). Trinity resumes action this Wednesday in West Haven, Conn. at University of Saint Joseph for a double-header starting at 3:30 p.m.

Game one was tied at 2-2 after two innings but the Bantams posted a five-run third inning with sophomore Kennedy Rogers (Pomona, Calif.) ripping a three-run blast for her first home run of the season. Trinity then added two more in the fourth to extend its lead to 12-2. Bowdoin responded in the bottom of the fourth with four runs to cut the deficit to six but Trinity added three more in the fifth to end the game on the mercy rule.

In game two, the Bantams took a 4-0 lead after four innings with two RBIs apiece from junior Michael Russell (Boston, Mass.) and Mikolajczak before Sydney Lang homered in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to two runs. Senior Jordan Stephan (South Orange, N.J.) recorded back-to-back, one-two-three innings in the sixth and seventh to secure her eighth win of the year. She struckout four batters and posted her third-straight complete game for the Bantams.
