Trinity Men's Soccer Opens NESCAC Slate With Close Loss To Hamilton

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College Bantams dropped a 2-1 decision against the visiting Hamilton College Continentals in their New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's soccer opener this afternoon on Trinity Soccer Field.  Trinity falls to 0-1-1 overall and Hamilton is now 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.  Bantam junior midfielder James Donaldson (Kirkland, Quebec) scored his first career goal, but Pandelis Margaronis scored twice for the Continentals.  Trinity plays at Colby next a week from today at 2 p.m. and Hamilton visits Ithaca on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Both teams scored early on penalty kicks in under a minute span, beginning with Donaldson's marker 9:27 into the contest.  Margaronis answered 29 seconds later to tie it and Trinity was unable to get off another shot before halftime.  Trinity junior goalkeeper Bernardo Simoes (Lisbon, Portugal) made two saves in the first half and four more early in the second half, including a diving stop on a header by Hamilton's Justin D'Alessandro in the 63rd minute.  Margoronis broke the stalemate in the 74th minute and the Continental defense did not yield a shot-on-goal in the second half. Simoes finishes with seven saves.
