Henry Bilicic (Del Mar, Calif.) and
Pierce Rutledge (Chicago, Ill.) made it to the singles championship round after the first day at the Dutchman Invitational at Union College for the Trinity College men's tennis team on Saturday. Partners Bilcic and
Jack Ginter (Pheonixville, Pa.) outlasted their competitors and will compete in the final two rounds, along with duo
Brandon Felcher (Westport, Conn.) and
Eduardo Sanchez-Carrion (Lima, Peru).
Bilicic defeated singles opponent Mason Spottek (6-2, 6-4) before he topped Ben Jacobs (6-2, 6-1) to face the final round on day two of the invitational. With a pair of back-to-back match victories, Rutledge won with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Aidan Baracao to ink himself a spot in the championship round. In singles, Felcher moved to the next round with a 6-1, 6-4 victory before he was retired by Dimitris Binopoulos.
Both Bantam pairs landed in the semi-finals doubles round after each squad recorded a win. Bilicic and Ginter secured an 8-2 victory, while Felcher and Sanchez-Carrion defeated their opponents 8-4.
The Bantams continue with day two of the invitational at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Day Two Update:
Bilicic defeated Adam Heilbronner (6-2, 6-0) to seal a A Flight singles victory in the final round of the invitational, while Rutledge also takes home hardware after beating Khai Ton 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-3) in the E Flight singles.
Bilicic took home another victory for the Bantams after the junior and doubles partner Ginter topped Ben Moolman and Nathan Turtledove with a 8-7 (7-5) victory. Fellow Trinity pairs Felcher and Sanchez-Carrion secured another doubles win with a 8-7 (7-2) triumph over Dimitris Binopoulos and Seth Prusko.
