Trinity Field Hockey Doubles Up New England

BIDDEFORD, Maine - Caelin Flaherty (Upton, Mass.) had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 2-1 victory over the University of New England Nor'Easters in field hockey action this afternoon on Blue Bolt Field.  Trinity, ranked No. 5 in the nation, improves to 5-0 with its second win in as many days and will visit Springfield in its next game on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  New England drops to 2-5.

Flaherty fed Janis for the first goal of the game 4:45 into the contest on one of just two Trinity shots in the first quarter, but the Bantam offense woke up and peppered New England goalie Lindsay Psych with shots early in the second frame until Flaherty broke through herself from sophomore back Izzy Deveney (Westport, Conn.) with 6:45 remaining in the first half.  The Nor' Easter offense put pressure on late in the second quarter, earning three penalty corners.  Deveney made a defensive save on a shot by New England's Shelly Tremblaey to keep the home team off the scoreboard but Kate Lindmark converted on a penalty stroke with seven seconds on the clock to make it, 2-1 at halftime.

Both offenses got off multiple shots in the third quarter, as Psych and Bantam junior Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) combined for five saves in the period.  In the fourth quarter, there were three shots and just one on goal by Trinity junior Jackie Frank (Longmeadow, Mass.).  Trinity finished with a 15-to-6 shooting advantage, forcing Psych to make seven saves.  McMichael notched two stops for the Bantams.
