AMHERST, Mass. - Senior
C.J. Redd (Peekskill, N.Y.) scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 71-50 win over the Amherst College Mammoths in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's basketball action this afternoon at LeFrak Gymnasium. Trinity snaps a four-game losing skid and improves to 15-5 overall and 3-3 in the NESCAC. Amherst drops to 8-12 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
Trinity used an early 12-0 run to take a 15-4 lead with 7:12 left in the first half with eight of the 12 points coming from rookies
Trevor McDonald (Natick, Mass.) and
Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, Ill.). The Bantams kept the momentum and, 32-16, at the break thanks to a three-pointer by junior
Gilbert Otoo (Burtonsville, Md.) in the final minute before halftime. Another Otoo jumper increased Trinity's lead to 42-22 just over five minutes into the second half, and the Bantams were not challenged the rest of the way. Trinity forced 16 turnovers while committing just seven and held Amherst to 29.1 percent shooting from the floor. Redd was 5-for-9 from the field, including 3-for-5 from long range, and 7-for-8 from the foul line for his 20 points, while Otto finished with 11 points and Otoo scored 10 points. Ryker Vance led Amherst with 14 points.
