Gosnell Nets First Career Goal in 3-1 Loss at #5 Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. — Through the first two periods, the Trinity College women's ice hockey team and the hosting Amherst College Mammoths were held to a stalemate as Hannah Leclair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) stood tall in the cage and deflected 18 pucks in the 3-1 loss on Saturday. The Bantams moved to 4-7 overall and 0-6 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, while the home team improved to 11-1 and 5-1. Trinity returns home to the Koeppel Community Sports Center on January 11 at 3 p.m. against Plymouth State University.

A pair of Mammoth goals in the first six and a half minutes of the third period put an end to the scoreless game before Ava Gosnell (Breckenridge, Colo.) connected on her first goal in the Navy & Gold at 14:56 off the passes from Paige Kehoe (Manasquan, N.J.) and Erin DeMarco (Westford, Mass.). DeMarco is tied for first on the team in assists with five, while Kehoe is tied for second with a trio. An empty net goal with 40 seconds remaining solidified the 3-1 loss.

Amherst had four powerplay opportunities but couldn't capitalize as Leclair saved six shots and Claudia Capone (Foxboro, Mass.) blocked a shot. Capone accounted for three of the Bantams 10 blocked shots, while Ethel Wilhelmsson (Stickholm, Sweden) stopped two. Leclair totaled 29 saves with 11 coming off the strong push by the Mammoths in the final period.
