HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Basketball team cruised past visiting Albertus Magnus, 72-51, in the opening game of the Trinity College Tip-Off Tournament at Oosting Gymnasium Saturday evening. The Bantams rise to 2-0 on the season, while Albertus Magnus dropped to 3-2 overall.
The Bantams established their dominance early in the game, holding the Falcons to four points in the opening quarter. Trinity opened the game on an 8-0 run, and then a three-pointer from
Theresa Twardosky (Merrimack, N.H.) extended the Bantams lead to 13-2 with 6:06 on the clock. Trinity closed the period on a 13-2 run to hold a 26-4 lead.
Senior
Alaina Holmes (Troy, N.Y.) knocked down a pair of buckets to extend the Bantams lead to 32-4 with 8:01 on the clock. The Falcons rattled off a 7-2 run to work at the deficit, but Trinity would exchange buckets with Albertus as the first half waned, taking a 43-21 lead into halftime.
The Bantams used a pair of bucks from graduate
Bria Fuller (Springdale, Md.) and sophomore
Samantha Slofkiss (Marlboro, N.J.), and then Twardosky canned a three-pointer to give Trinity a 59-30 lead. Albertus had a late 6-0 run, but the Bantams remained ahead 62-36 heading into the fourth.
Sophomore
Lillie Cumming (Medfield, Mass.) converted a layup in the paint at the 8:44 mark of the fourth to give the Bantams their largest lead of the game, 66-36. The Falcons knocked down some late three-pointers to trim the deficit to 72-51 at the final whistle.
The Bantams dominated the rebounding column, 57-22, and outscored the Falcons bench, 44-7. Trinity connected on 32-of-65 (49.2%) from the field, including 4-of-14 (28.6%) from three-point range, and 4-of-6 (66.7%) from the foul line. Albertus Magnus shot 15-of-58 (25.9%) from the floor, 6-of-25 (24.0%) from three-point, and 15-of-17 (88.2%) from the charity stripe.

Olivia Vick (Chicago, Ill.) registered nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in her collegiate debut. Twardosky and Cumming netted eight points apiece, while Holmes and Slofkiss tallied six points and a game-high seven rebounds in the win.
The Bantams will be back on the court for the Trinity Tip-Off Championship game against Skidmore College at 3:00 p.m. at Oosting Gymnasium. Albertus Magnus will face Connecticut College in the Consolation game at 1:00 p.m.
