Women's Hockey Falls To Middlebury In Season Opener, 3-0

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Ice Hockey fell to visiting Middlebury College, 3-0, in their New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opener at Koeppel Sports Center Friday night. The Bantams open the season at 0-1, while the Panther sits 1-0 overall.

Just over seven minutes into the first period, Middlebury first year Kate Flynn netted an unassisted goal to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Middlebury doubled their advantage as Raia Schluter (Weston, Mass.) potted an unassisted tally at the 8:27 mark to make it 2-0 lead.

With 10:50 remaining in the second period, Flynn worked the puck to first year Olivia McManus, who found junior Cat Appleyard (Rye, N.Y.) near the net for the finish to extend the lead to 3-0. Senior Hannah LeClair (Kensington, Prince Edward Island) kept the Panthers off the scoreboard the remainder of the contest, stopping 22 shots over the final 31 minutes of play.

The Panthers outshot the Bantams, 44-15, during the game. LeClair made a season-high 41 saves for Trinity, while Middlebury sophomore Sophia Will made 15 saves in the win.
The Bantams will look to avenge the loss when they square off with the Panthers Saturday at Koeppel Sports Center at 4:00 p.m.
