HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Squash squad defeated visiting Tufts University, 8-1, in a match at the Kellner Squash Courts Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Bantams improved to 2-0 on the season.
The Bantams jumped to an early 4-0 lead as Trinity wrapped up four wins at the 19-minute mark. Senior Nouran Youssef defeated Caroline Chin, 11-4, 11-3, 11-4, as junior Janna Ashmawy recorded a 11-6, 11-2, 11-7 win over Sanjana Vissapragada. Sophomore Zaynab Khan downed Ellyn Xu, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9, and first-year Varvara Esina tallied a 11-4, 11-5, 11-3 victory over Chloe Bergam.
Senior Madeleine Hylland recorded an 11-5, 11-1, 11-3 win over Aleezah Burhan, followed by junior Jana Safy notching an 11-7, 11-3, 11-4 win over Riddhi Joshi to extend the lead to 6-0. Sophomore Fabiola Cabello won 11-9, 11-7, 11-5 over Nieve Monderer, and junior Malak Moustafa tallied an 11-4, 11-6, 11-9 victory over Vharshamithraa Dinesh to make it 8-0. The Jumbos prevented the sweep as sophomore Kara Lincou fell to Maria Arseniev in four sets, 11-7, 7-11, 8-11, 8-11 in the final match.
The Bantams will return to the court when they travel to Colby College for a 1:00 p.m. match Saturday.
