Trinity's Schaeublin Finishes As 133-Pound Runner-Up At NCAA Wrestling Regionals

Five Bantams Place, Schaeublin And Perry Selected For Nationals

GORHAM, Maine - First-year Adam Schaeublin (Salem, Mass.) won three of four matches to finish second in the 133-pound bracket to lead the Trinity College Bantams to sixth place in the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championships at the University of Southern Maine this weekend.  Trinity totaled 71 points, while Johnson and Wales (R.I.) won the team title with 175.5 points.  Five different Bantams finished among the top eight in his weight class.  Trinity sophomore tri-captain Chris Perry (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) was third at 149 pounds and senior tri-captain Kevin Lyskawa (Londonderry, N.H.) was fourth at 165 pounds.  Senior tri-captain Anders Klass (Braintree, Mass.) took fifth at 197 pounds and sophomore 174-pounder Adam Frost (Bennington, Vt.) placed eighth for the Bantams.  Schaeublin and Perry will represent the Bantams in the NCAA Division III National Championships on March 10 and 11 in Roanoke, Va.

"We had an outstanding season finishing 13-9 in dual meets led by seniors Kevin Lyskawa, Anders Klass and Nico Patch," said Trinity Head Coach Sebby Amato. "Sixth place was our best team finish since early 2000s! I am so proud of this group. They persevered all season long. Our two National qualifiers will represent Trinity well at the nationals March 10-11 and will lead the way for our team the next few years. They both are special talents and have have just as good a chance as anyone with a little luck to become All Americans. Trinity is Back!"

Schaeublin entered the day undefeated in two Saturday bouts and opened with 12-7 win over Bridgewater State's Wilson Gomes in the 133-pound semifinals.  He faced Gabriel Leo-Esparolini, of Johnson and Wales, but lost by the same score of 12-7 to earn second place.  Perry also entered today's action without a loss but was beaten, 4-2, by Johnson and Wales' Hayden Brown, who went on to win the bracket.  Perry fed into the consolation semifinals and won twice more, 5-3, and, 3-1, to take third.  Lyskawa gave Trinity three grapplers in semifinals as today's action began but lost, 7-3, against NYU's Cooper Pontelandolfo in that match.  In the consolations, Lyskawa earned a 1-0 win in the semifinals, but was beaten, 3-1, in sudden victory by Castleton's Michael Angers in the third-place match.  In other action today, Klass went 2-1 including a pin in 4:23 over Roger Williams' Spencer Fetrow in the fifth-place match.  Frost lost in the consolation semifinals and the seventh-place match today but had earned eighth with his 2-1 record on Saturday.

On Saturday, Schaeublin had won by fall and by a a 7-3 decision to reach the 133-pound semifinals. Perry went 2-0 yesterday with a  major decision win and a sudden victory win over Coast Guard's A.J. Pagliarulo.  Lyskawa was undefeated on Saturday with 7-3 and 9-5 decisions.  Klass pinned Springfield's Mark Thomas in the opening round and WPI's Tyler Riggs in his first consolation match Saturday to finish 4-2 with three pins for the weekend.  Frost opened the tournament with a 9-8 victory over JWU's Michael Ross and pinned Southern Maine's Joe Wasilewski in the consolations on Saturday.  Trinity rookie 125-pounder Matt Carrozza (Brookfield, Conn.), sophomore 141-pounder Aidan Hebert (Bethany, Conn.), senior 157 pounder Nico Patch (Oswego, Ill.), first-year 184-pounder Cooper Kelley (Sandown, N.H.) all won a match in the tournament.
