HARTFORD, Conn. — Goals by
Spencer Korona (Enfield, Conn.) and
Casey Rhodes (Huntington Beach, Calif.) in the final period sealed the 3-1 triumph for the Trinity College men's ice hockey team over the visiting New England Small College Athletic Conference foe Williams College after trailing in the first period on Friday. Trinity improved to 13-5-1 on the season and 10-2-1 in the league, while the Ephs dropped to 6-12-1 and 4-8-1.
In the first period, Jack Sabre netted the lone goal for the Ephs off the sticks of Owen Stadheim and Jacob Monroe at 13:19 in the first period after shot was waved off a minute earlier by David Vieten. Prior to the visitors goal, the Navy & Gold let off nine shots, with a trio blocked and six saves by Evan Ruschil in the Williams box, with only five total shots on goal following the goal.
Off the pass from
Brandon Cimino (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and
Paul Selleck (Laguna Hills, Calif.),
Gerard Maretta (Brick, N.J.) evened the score with 6:37 remaining in the second period, as the junior has goals in six of the last seven games for a total of 10 goals and a pair of game-winning goals. The Bantams stayed vigilant of defense in the second and only allowed three shots on target as one was batted away by
Andrew Troy (Itaca, N.Y.) and two saved by
Devon Bobak (Northwood, Ohio). With 1:37 remaining on the clock, Rhodes netted an insurance goal for Trinity off the quick pass from
Nicholas Siffringer (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) to put the team up, 3-1.
In the visiting goal, Ruschil made 39 saves and Bobak stopped 17, with seven in the opening period.
