SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — After a 2-1 doubles lead, the Trinity College women's tennis team padded the lead with five singles wins for the 7-2 victory at Springfield College on Thursday and snapped the Prides' four-game win streak. The Bantams improved to 8-7 on the season, while Springfield dropped to 9-8. Trinity faces New England Small College Athletic Conference opponent Bowdoin College on Saturday at 10 a.m. on Assaiante Tennis Center.
At No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively,
Isabella Hartman (New York, N.Y.) and
Josephine Kimball (New York, N.Y.) secured the match point in 8-2 win, while
Allie Francis (Westport, Conn.) and
Angelina Shyltsyna (Odessa, Ukraine) secured the 8-5 victory.
Ella Baker (Gladstone, N.J.) and
Elise Brennan (Valatie, N.Y.) stood tall to knot the match at seven apiece, but narrowly fell in the tiebreaker set 9-7 at No. 3 partners.
In the top five singles matches, the Navy & Gold bested Springfield in two-straight sets and Francis only allowed one point in the second set with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph. Hartman clinched the match for Trinity at No. 1 singles in 6-0, 6-4 win. In the No. 6 solo match,
Kennedy White rallied back in the second set, 6-4, to knot the match at one at all after dropping the first 6-3 but the sophomore fell 6-1 in the final set.
