"The Emerson Cup was first contested by Trinity and Coast Guard in 1973. On the 50th anniversary of that contest, we are honored to bring the Cup back to Hartford, aaid Trinity Head Coach
Kevin MacDermott. "The race was a competitive, hard-fought contest and was a great early-season face-off between these two crews."
Trinity's varsity eight, ranked No. 3 in the country, and its second-varsity eight both lost races against Williams College today as well, while Trinity's third varsity eight dropped its first two races of the spring against Tufts and Williams, respectively.
"The Williams crews demonstrated why they are ranked No. 1," added MacDermott. "They are outstanding and set an impressive benchmark for speed. Against our crews in the afternoon and Tufts crews earlier in the day, Williams stamped their authority on the Division III field. I am proud of the effort from all crews and we have a strong foundation to build on. The season offers a lot of racing opportunities and I am excited to see the progress of the crews. The second varsity in particular had a couple of great races today and put up a strong fight against the Williams crew in the afternoon"
