Trinity College Hires Russell As Assistant Football Coach

HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity College football has hired Matt Russell as assistant an coach.  Russell will coach the Trinity defensive line, replacing Kevin Mill who left Trinity after five years for an assistant position at Yale University.  The Bantams, coached by Jeff Devanney (17th Season), completed their first-ever 9-0 season and won the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) title in 2022.

Russell arrived at Trinity from Bryant University, where he was an assistant offensive line coach in 2022. From 2018-2021, he was the offensive line and tight ends coach at American International College. Russell began his coaching career at ASA College (N.Y.) before spending the following three spring seasons coaching the Lazio Ducks in Rome, Italy and coming back to the States in the fall to coach the running backs at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. 

Originally from Florida, Russell played football at Hiram College in Ohio, where he earned a bachelor's degree with a double major in business management and political science and a minor in entrepreneurship.  Russell also own's a master's degree in business administration with a focus on analytics in football, specifically comparing NFL team victories versus players salaries by position.
