McCabe Nets Game Winner in 1-0 Shutout at Framingham State

Kiernan McCabe recorded the eventual game-winning goal in the Bantams season opener.

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — After 86 scoreless minutes, sophomore Kieran McCabe (Natick, Mass.) put the Trinity College men's soccer team on the scoreboard for the eventual game-winner in the 1-0 victory at Framingham State University for the Bantams season opener on Tuesday. Trinity improved to 1-0-0 on the season, while FSU dropped to 1-1-0. The team opens New England Small College Athletic Conference play on the road at Hamilton College on September 9.

After back-to-back shots from captain James Donaldson (Kirkland, Quebec) and McCabe, Jacob Loor (Houston, Texas) gained control of the ball before sending it to McCabe for the eventual game-winning shot with four minutes remaining in regulation. Prior to the goal, Trinity attempted 20 shots with 6 on goal with 13 combined shots coming of the boots of Donaldson and Michael Traynor (Rye, N.Y.).

The Rams had a chance to score in the 37th minute as Kaio Santos Da Silva drilled a corner kick at the net, but the Trinity remained strong and blocked the shot. The Bantams defense stayed vigilant with a trio of blocked shots. In the net for the Navy & Gold, senior goalkeeper Bernardo Simoes (Lisbon, Portugal) nabbed six saves, while the home team's goalkeeper also saved six.
