HARTFORD, Conn. — The Trinity College field hockey team travels to Smith College for its season opener on Thursday at Smith College under new head coach
Jessica Bergen (1st season), along with her new staff of assistant coaches
Hannah Tepper (1st season) and
Nicole Salamone (1st season) and goalkeeper coach
Katie Kozey (1st season). The new coaching staff looks to senior captains
Molly King (Canton, Mass.) and
Kylie Tierney (Garden City, N.Y.) for added leadership this season.
"Molly and Kylie are very in tune with all our student-athletes, new or returning, while being an advocate for our players through selfless leadership on and off the field," Bergen said. "These two sometimes lead before I do by integrating the first-years, leading by example, encouraging and building a positive attitude and culture for the field hockey program."
On the field,
Katrina Winfield (Wilmington, Del.) led in goals (12) last year, along with
Jackie Frank (Longmeadow, Mass.) (8). Bergen intends to continue this duos success on the field by using other offensive weapons to feed Winfield and Frank and set up pivotal attacking plays. Starting goalkeeper
Olivia McMichael (Glenside, Pa.) stood tall in the net for the Navy & Gold with 99 saves, only allowed 19 goals and a .839 save percentage last season. The Bantams promise a lot of depth with their 14 returners, but also among the nine newcomers.Â
