HOLYOKE, Mass. – The Trinity College Men's Swimming squad swam past Vassar College in their meet on Monday afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Natatorium. The Bantams cruised by the Brewers with a score of 183-100. Trinity leveled their record 3-3 on the season, while Vassar dropped to a 2-5 record.
On the diving platform, junior Topher Fitzpatrick claimed first in the 1M dive at 168.3, and in the 3M dive with a total score of 184.55. Sophomore Owen Schmidt kept the score close in the 1M dive as he tallied a score of 163.65 and second in the 3M dive 163.75.
The Bantams began the meet within the lanes grabbing gold in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Matthew Brown, Quin Woods, Dillon McDermott and Collin Leonard with a time of 1:37.59. In the following men's event Matthew Semelsberger sped past his opponents with a time of 10:46.28, over one minute faster than the second place finisher Daniel Ferman from Vassar.
Graduate Quin Woods fell just four hundredths of a second slower than Vassars' Ricky Kurosawa (1:01.51) in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing in 1:01.55..
In the 200-yard butterfly junior Matthew J Brown (1:56.62) finished fourteen seconds ahead of the second place swimmer, teammate Ben Lynch (2:10.68) collecting first and second in the event. Senior Dillon McDermott took gold by seconds with a time of 49.56 followed in second by first year Benjamin Broxson (51.05) collecting second for the bantams.
Senior Colin Leonard, McDermott, Patrick Cadogan and Matthew Brown finished the meet collecting gold in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:17.31.
The Bantams will be back in the water as they host Wesleyan on Wednesday, January 17th at 2:00PM.
