A Weekend of Triumph: Trinity Rowing's Successful Regatta

| By:

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Trinity College Women's Rowing team had an impressive showing at the recent regatta, marked by outstanding performances from both seasoned rowers and newcomers alike. The weekend drew enthusiastic support from parents and alumni, creating an electric atmosphere at the boathouse.

We had an absolutely fantastic weekend! Parents and alumni filled the boathouse, our shore, and dock to cheer on the team in picture-perfect weather.

This race is always a joy for our team because it's a bit of a homecoming for the Trinity Rowing Family. Several hundred supporters passed through this weekend to cheer on the rowers. The best part? One of the biggest regattas of the fall took place right in front of our boathouse. The course starts about a mile downstream from our dock, and after the crews pass by the Trinity Boathouse, they have about 1.5 miles until they cross the finish line in downtown Hartford.

The Women's Open 8+ kicked off our day at 9:35 AM. We had our 1V (Varsity 8+), 2V, 3V, and 4V all competing in this event. The Varsity 8+ finished 4th, just 10 seconds behind Division III rival Williams and a mere 5 seconds ahead of Wesleyan. Our 2V placed 12th overall, securing 3rd place among second boats. The 3V finished 19th as the top finishing 3V in the event, while the 4V came in 29th, edging out several 3V opponents.

Hot on the heels of the Open 8+, several first-year rowers quickly turned around to race in the Women's Novice 8+, where they placed 2nd, earning their first collegiate medal and the first medal of the day for Trinity! It has been wonderful to watch the Class of 2028 develop over the last five weeks. They are a fantastic group and a real asset to our team. The future is bright for them and for Trinity Rowing.

After a lunch break, the women's team doubled up, with most of the rowers competing in a second event in the afternoon. Kicking off the afternoon, our seniors Camille Schubert and Whitney Young raced in the Women's Open 2x for the fourth consecutive year. They emerged victorious, winning the event for the third year in a row! Trinity had a second entry in that event, which finished 3rd, bringing home the third medal of the day for the team.

A major highlight of the day was our two Women's Open 4+s, which placed 1st and 2nd in their event. Both boats battled down the course, just as they had in practice, coming out on top against UConn's top four and the rest of the field. This was a great example of intersquad competition resulting in a faster program overall. I'm very excited for both of those boats! Trinity also had two more fours in this event: our 3rd boat placed 16th, and our 4th boat placed 21st.
