Volleyball NESCAC Quarterfinal Preview: Wesleyan

HARTFORD, Conn. – The fifth-seeded Trinity College Volleyball team will travel to fourth-seeded Wesleyan University for their New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Women's Volleyball Championship quarterfinals match at Silloway Gymnasium Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
 
Bantam Bytes
  • Trinity enters the matchup with a 19-5 record, matching the second-most wins in program history along with the 2011 squad.
  • The Bantams finished with a 5-5 mark in NESCAC play.
  • Trinity led the NESCAC in points (1,501), kills (1,152), total attempts (3354), assists (1,086), and digs (1,593).
  • The Bantams ranked third in assists per set (11.8), total blocks (173), solo blocks (76), and digs per set (17.47); and fourth in kills per set (12.52).
  • Opponents are registering a .135 hitting percentage against Trinity, third-best mark in the conference.
  • Senior Eva Lekovic ranks second in the conference in kills with a career-high 318 and sits tenth in hitting percentage (.290).
  • Junior Ellie Gordon is fifth in the NESCAC in kills with a career-high 236.
  • Senior Bella Caffuzzi leads the league in solo blocks (39) and ranks second in total blocks (91), fifth in blocks per set (0.99), sixth in hitting percentage (.303), and seventh in assisted blocks (52).
  • Junior Caroline Howell dished out a team-high 449 assists, tenth-most in conference, averaging 5.1 assists per set.
  • Sophomore Scarlett Jago leads the NESCAC in digs (406) and ranks third in digs per set (4.46).
  • Senior Grace Sullivan owns a team-high 32 service aces with 379 assists and 145 digs.
  • First-year Annette Schlunk has recorded 140 kills with 157 digs, 15 assists, 14 service aces and eight blocks.
 
Scouting the Cardinals
  • Wesleyan holds a 13-10 record on the season, and have dropped five of their last six matches entering the quarterfinals.
  • Wesleyan leads the NESCAC in total blocks (238.5), solo blocks (105), and block assists (309).
  • The Cardinals rank third in conference in hitting percentage (.200),
  • Wesleyan ranks in the bottom half of the league in kills (976), assists (871), service aces (140), and digs per set (15.95).
  • Opponents are logging a .165 hitting percentage against the Cardinals, the fourth-highest mark in the NESCAC.
  • The Cardinals allowed the second-most kills in the conference (1,063).
  • Senior Bianca Gonya leads the league in hitting percentage with a .344 mark, and total blocks (95).

History
