MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Trinity College Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams competed in the two-day Jayden Szkirka Memorial Cup, hosted by Wesleyan University on Friday and Saturday. Both Bantam squads finished third out of eight teams, surpassing their NESCAC rivals, the host Cardinals.
Charlotte Murphree set a new school record in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:21.90 to place second. She also recorded a personal best in the 100 breaststroke, where she earned second place. Murphree's performances in both breaststroke events, along with her 50-yard split in the 100 breast, ranked her among the top three in the NESCAC. Additionally, she finished seventh in the 500 freestyle.
Niamh Kastner claimed the only individual event victory for the Bantams, winning the 200 butterfly. She also placed second in both the 100 butterfly and the 200 individual medley.
Isabelle Tagliaferro earned third place in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle.
The Women's 200 & 400 Medley Relays both finished in second place, with the relay teams consisting of Rachel Kim, Charlotte Murphree, Iris Huerta, and Isabelle Tagliaferro.
On the diving board, Owen Schmidt had a standout weekend, placing second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
Weston Lowe also had an impressive meet, posting personal bests in every event he swam, including the 500 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 1650 freestyle, and as the leadoff swimmer in the 400 freestyle relay.
Head Swimming and Diving Coach Hannah Hagy commented, "I am thrilled with how our team performed this weekend! This meet is a great opportunity to assess where our team stands as we approach the end of the fall semester. We had 26 personal bests and even more season bests, which is fantastic to see at this point in the season. Breaking a school record is just icing on the cake and has generated a lot of excitement for what's to come for the rest of the season!"
Both Bantam squads will be back within the lanes on Saturday January 11th for a 1PM meet hosted by Clark University with the University of Saint Joseph (CT).
