MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Trinity College Women's Indoor Track and Field team opened their 2024 season at the Wesleyan Winter Invite, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday morning.
First -year Jillian Strynar set a new school record in the 60-meter dash running it in 7.83, breaking the previous record that was set by Katie Marlow-Benedick in 2018. In the process, Strynar also qualified for the DIII New England Championships.
There were strong performances in the 60-meter dash from first-year Brooke Scott and sophomore Ava DuBois—who was competing in her first indoor season.
Multiple Bantams finished in the top five of the 200-meter, while first-year Jenna Najjar took first in the 400.
Caitlin Fitzgerald claimed victory in the 600-meter, while senior captain Savannah Cece took first in the 60-meter hurdles.
First-year Lauren Grattan placed second in the high jump.
Head Track and Field Coach John Michael Mason remarked, "Our Bantams brought great competitive energy to their first meet of the indoor season today. Multiple personal records were set across nearly every event, and it was exciting to see our newest Bantams experience the energy of meet day at the collegiate level. The team is in a great place as we head into the winter break!"
The Trinity Track and Field Squad will be back in action on Friday, January 17th at the Ramapo Indoor Track Season Opener hosted by Ramapo College at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York, NY. The meet will begin at 10AM.
