HARTFORD, Conn. - For the first time since the 2016-17 season, the Trinity College Men's Hockey team is heading to the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship Frozen Four after claiming a 2-0 victory over Elmira College in the Quarterfinals at Koeppel Community Sports Center Saturday night.
The Bantams improve to 24-3-1 on the season and will face Adrian College in the Semifinals on March 21 at 7:00 p.m. in Hartford. Adrian defeated St. Norbert, 5-3, in the Quarterfinals on Saturday. Elmira wraps their season with a 20-8-1 record.
With 12:18 remaining in the first period, the Bantams broke a scoreless tie, capitalizing on a power play opportunity. First-year
James Barbour spotted junior
Alexander Mozian in front of the net, where Mozian chipped the puck past Elmira sophomore goaltender Kyle Curtain to stake Trinity to a 1-0 lead.
Less than three minutes later, the Bantams potted an insurance goal as senior
Devan Tongue carried the puck into the Elmira zone, dropped the puck from first-year
Connor Sedlak at the goal line. Sedlak fed senior Gerrard Marretta at the top of the crease, who tucked a shot past Curtain to put the Bantams ahead by the eventual final score of 2-0.
The Eagles edged the Bantams in the shot column, 35-34, and in the faceoff circle, 36-33, during the game. Trinity sophomore goalie
Devon Bobak logged his seventh shutout of the season with a game-high 35 saves, while Curtain stopped 32 shots for Elmira.
