Men's Ice Hockey NCAA Quarterfinal Preview Against Elmira

HARTFORD, Conn. – The second-top seeded Trinity College Men's Hockey team will host seventh-seed Elmira College in the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Quarterfinals at the Koeppel Community Sports Center Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Bantam Bytes

  • Trinity college was crowned New England Small College Athletic Conference Champions after downing Tufts University 4-0 on Sunday, March 3rd

  • The Bantams wrapped the 2023-24 regular season with a 20-3-1 record, logging their first 20-win season since 2017-18.

  • After NESCAC Tournament play Trinity grew their record, 23-3-1. 

  • Bantams received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with a first round bye.

  • The Bantams moved up to second in the latest edition of the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Division III Men's Hockey Poll.

  • Nationally, the Bantams rank second in scoring defense, allowing 1.26 goals per game; third in penalty kill percentage (.905), fifth in scoring margin at 2.22 and 18th in scoring with 3.48 goals per game.

  • In conference, Trinity led the league in points (240), points per game (8.89), assists (146), assists per game (5.4), goals (94), goals per game (3.48), goals allowed (34), and goals allowed per game (1.26).

  • The Bantams power-play unit is ranked second, converting at a .196 clip with 18 power-play goals.

  • The Trinity penalty kill unit is ranked 8th in conference, allowing seven goals on 84 chances.

  • Senior Ned Blanchard finished sixth in the NESCAC in assists with 15.

  • Junior Richard Boysen finished 8th in conference in points with 22 with eleven goals and 11 assists.

  • Senior Christian Hayes has posted 18 points behind a team-high nine goals and nine assists.

  • Senior Kyle Tomaso has tallied 18 points with 12 assists tied with senior teammate Devan Tongue

  • Sophomore goaltender Devon Bobak owns a 1.246 goals against average, ranking third in the nation, with a .940 save percentage and 515 saves.

  • The Bantams are 4-2-0 all-time against Elmira, last meeting was in 2016-2017.

Scouting the Soaring Eagles

  • Elmira finished up the regular season with a 19-7-1 record and a 11-6-1 mark in conference.

  • The Soaring Eagles are 3-2 over their last five games, posting victories over Castleton (4-3), Babson (3-2, OT) and Endicott College (5-2) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

  • Elmira ranks second in the New England Hockey Conference with 117 goals and 198 assists, averaging 4.18 goals per game. 

  • Nicholas Domitrovic registered 38pts along with Janis Vizbelis with 34pts, recording a team-high 18 goals apiece.

  • Vizbelis holds a .310 shot percentage, with +17 for plus/minus.

  • Shawn Kennedy holds a team-high of 39 points, along with 26 assists and knocking in 13 goals for the soaring eagles.

  • Kyle Cutrin ranks first in the NECH in saves (680), with a save percentage of .930 along with a 2.40 goals against average.

Last Meeting vs. Elmira

  • The Bantams have won the past two meetings against the Soaring Eagles, with the most recent play being in the 2016-17 season for an early season match where the Bantams were victorious 4-2.
