HARTFORD, Conn. – The second seeded Trinity College Men's Hockey team will host at large recipient Adrian College in the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Semifinals in the Koeppel Community Sports Center Thursday, March 21
st at 7:00 p.m., following the meeting of Hobart College and Utica University at 3:00 p.m.
BANTAM BYTES
- Trinity blanked Elmira College Soaring Eagles last Saturday in the Quarterfinals 2-0 to advance to the Semifinals.
- The Bantams were the only team to hold an opponent scoreless in the second round of this year's NCAA DIII playoffs.
- Trinity improves to 24-3-1 and wins their first NCAA tournament game since the 2016-2017 season. Their 24 wins this season ties the 1986-1987 program high win total.
- The Bantams rank third nationally with a .908 penalty kill percentage with only 8 opposing ppg goals were successful out of 87 attempts, including the three against the Soaring Eagles in the quarterfinal clash.
- Trinity is ranked second for scoring defense with an average of 1.21, ranked fifth with a scoring margin of 2.21 nationally.
- The New England Small College Athletic Conference player of the year, Sophomore, Devon Bobak allowed zero goals, denying 35 total shots on goal from Elmira College's offensive onslaught.
- Bobak is currently ranked second nationally and first in the NESCAC with a goal against average of 1.2 with 1649 minutes logged in the net. The sophomore averaged 19.6 saves per game, with a save percentage of .943.
- Senior Ned Blanchard leads the Bantams with 15 assists and positive 31 for plus/minus stats, he also added 15 in the season.
- Richard Boysen carries Trinity with 11 goals on the season, 22 points, adding 11 assists and 11 blocks.
- Gerard Marretta tallied 10 goals (.132 SH%), with 5 assists, along with Christian Hayes netting 9 goals (.170 SH%), handing out 9 assists. Devan Tongue totaling 13 assists, second most for Trinity.
- The Bantams are 1-2-0 all-time against Adrian, and their last meeting was in 2016-2017.
ADRIAN BY THE NUMBERS
- In last weekend's Semifinal game, the Adrian College Bulldogs avenged their late season loss in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup Playoffs Championship by netting five goals to beat rival St. Norbert College 5-3.
- Adrian sat atop the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) during the regular season finishing with a conference best winning record of 16-2 on the year. Their best since the 2021-2022 National Championship team.
- Adrian is third in the season long pairwise rankings and was voted 4th in the March 4th USCHO poll.
- Adrian is 4th in scoring offense in the country scoring an average of 4.61 goals a game and 5th in scoring defense in the country allowing 1.81 goals a game.
- Adrian is also 3rd in Division III with 130 power play opportunities however, they have converted a mere 32 into goals on the scoreboard.
- Adrian is 4-1 over their last five games, outscoring opponents 24-7 during that stretch while also having avenged their only loss.
- Senior Mathew Rehding leads Division III in assists with 32 on the season and senior Jaden Shields is not far behind with 28 on the year.
- Senior Mathew Rehding is also second in America in points with 48 and averages 1.55 a game.
- Bulldog Senior Zachary Heintz comes in leading the team with 8 power play goals, making him tied for 7th nationally.
- Bulldog Senior Goalie Dershahn Stewart has a .935 save percentage which leads the NCHA, ranking 12th nationally.
LAST MEETING WITH ADRIAN
- The Bantams have lost their previous two bouts against the Bulldogs having last played during the 2021-2022 season. The last time Trinity emerged victorious against Adrian en-route to their national championship game win in the NCAA semifinals during the 2014-2015 season.
