#3 Men's Basketball Upends Worcester State, 88-53

HARTFORD, Conn. – The third-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team led wire-to-wire in an 88-53 non-conference victory over visiting Worcester State University Monday night at Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams improve to 12-1 overall, while the Lancers slide to 3-9 on the season.
 
The Bantams had four scorers record double digit point totals, paced by a game-high 23 points and a game-high nine rebounds from junior Jarrel Okorougo. Junior Drew Lazarre netted 18 points with seven rebounds, three steals and two assists. Sophomore Jared Berry chipped in 13 points and six rebounds, while senior Sean Macarchuk added 10 points and three rebounds. Junior Henry Vetter dished out a career-high 11 assists with three points, three rebounds and three steals in the win.
 
Brandon Goris led the Lancers with a team-high 16 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds. Sam Davies tallied 12 points off the bench, while Camdyn Shoesmith had six rebounds with a team-high five assists.
 
The Bantams jumped to a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes behind four points from Okorougo and a triple from Lazarre. Worcester State used a 9-5 run to trim the deficit to 12-9 with 13:33 on the clock. Holding a slim 15-14 edge midway through the period, Trinity executed a 12-2 run, featuring six points from Berry, to build a 27-16 advantage. The Bantams outscored the Lancers, 11-3, to close the half, powered by five points from Berry and four from Okorougo to take a 38-19 lead into the break.
 
A pair of buckets from Okorougo helped the Bantams double-up the Lancers, 42-21, with 18:38 to play. Trinity continued to build separation as Lazarre and Macarchuk each knocked down a pair of three-pointers to extend the advantage to 58-33 at the 12:10 mark. Okorougo poured in ten points in a four-minute spurt to push the Trinity lead to 75-49, and junior Paul Jordan netted eight points down the stretch to send the Bantams to the 88-53 win.
 
The Bantams dominated the rebounding column, 42-25, points in the paint, 40-8, and bench points, 35-27. Trinity connected on 33-of-67 (49.3%) from the field, including 12-of-33 (36.4%) from three-point, and 10-of-13 (76.9%) from the foul line. Worcester State shot 16-of-54 (29.6%) from the floor, 10-of-22 (45.5%) from beyond the arc, and 11-of-15 (73.3%) from the charity stripe.
 
Trinity will return to action when they kick off New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play against Middlebury (8-4, 0-0 NESCAC) at Oosting Gymnasium Friday at 7:00 p.m.
