Late Goal Pushes Amherst Past Men's Soccer, 1-0, in Season Finale

AMHERST, Mass. – The Trinity College Men's Soccer team wrapped up their 2025 season with a 1-0 defeat to host Amherst College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash at Gooding Field Saturday afternoon. The Bantams finish with a 3-9-3 record with a 0-7-3 mark in conference, while the Mammoths rise to 8-4-3 overall and 4-4-2 in the NESCAC.
 
What Happened:
  • The Bantams controlled the shot column in the first half, putting five of six shots on frame, but Mammoths keeper Trey Sheppard registered a handful of saves to preserve the scoreless game.
  • After more than 81 minutes of scoreless play, the Mammoths found the game-winner as Vincent Akanbo scored off a pass from Obed Opoku to send Amherst to the 1-0 victory.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Bantams tallied seven shots on goal in 13 shot attempts, while the Mammoths generated five shots on goal on 12 shots.
  • Trinity dominated the corner kick battle, 8-2, and received more whistles, 17-15.
  • Trevor Saruwaka fired a team-high four shots, while Silas Lawrence and Jack Murphy added two shots apiece.
  • The trio of Nate Dyott, Felix Schmidt and Jackson Leach each recorded a save in the game, and Sheppard made a match-high seven saves.
