Bantams Outlast Brandeis in Five-Set Home Thriller

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College Volleyball team collected a five-set victory over visiting Brandeis University, 3-2, in a non-conference thriller Saturday afternoon in Oosting Gymnasium. The Bantams improve to 9-5 on the season, while the Judges fall to 6-11 overall.

What Happened:

  • Brandeis opened the match strong, edging out the Bantams 25-23 in the first set. Trinity answered back with back-to-back wins in the second and third frames (25-18, 25-19) to take a 2-1 lead.

  • The Judges rallied late in the fourth, sneaking past the Bantams 25-20 to force a decisive fifth set. 

  • Trinity held a slim lead for most of the final frame before closing the match on a three-point run to secure the 15-10 victory and the 3-2 match win.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Trinity posted 60 kills with a .183 hitting percentage, along with 52 assists, six blocks, and a season fourth-best 94 digs.

  • Brandeis totaled 50 kills with a .148 hitting percentage, 46 assists, six service aces, and seven blocks.

  • Two Bantams recorded double-digit kills, led by Ellie Gordon with a team-high 15, and Emma Ewart, who added 11 kills and 11 digs for a double-double.

  • Maya Hall chipped in eight kills, while Maggie Barnes, Chloe Gentile, and Sarah Jeremias each registered seven.

  • Defensively, Scarlett Jago anchored the back row with 32 digs, and Jeremias added 21.

  • Caroline Howell and Catalina Hendricks split setting duties evenly, each dishing out 23 assists.

  • Brandeis was led by Anna Ertischeck (20 kills) and Colette Ejang (10 kills).

Up Next:

  • The Bantams travel to Tufts University for a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) matchup on Friday, October 10, at 6 p.m. 

  • Trinity holds a 3-36 all-time record against the Jumbos. The Bantams fell in a five-set battle last season and will look to snap a 14-match skid in the series.
