#1 Men's Basketball Overwhelms Babson, 77-44

HARTFORD, Conn. – The top-ranked Trinity College Men's Basketball team avenged last season's lost with a decisive 77-44 victory over Babson College at Ray Oosting Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Bantams improve to 7-0 on the season, while the Beavers dip to 6-3 overall.
 
What Happened:
  • Play was close to open the first half as Babson took an early 5-0 lead, but Trinity answered with a 13-6 run, capped by a jumper from Jarrel Okorougo to give the Bantams a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
  • A steal and fastbreak dunk from Jared Berry punctuated a six-point spurt from the sophomore that helped escort the Trinity lead to 28-18 with 8:26 remaining in the first half.
  • Trinity closed the first half on a 22-5 run, featuring 11 points from Okorougo, to take a 50-23 advantage into the break.
  • Leading 62-36 midway through the second half, the Bantams wrapped up the victory with a 15-2 run over the next six minutes en route to the 77-44 win.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • The Bantams connected on 41.4% (29-of-70) from the field, including 28% (7-of-25) from three-point range, and 66.7% (12-of-18) from the foul line.
  • The Beavers shot 28.3% (17-of-6) from the floor, 21.7% (5-of-23) from beyond the arc, and 55.6% (5-of-9) from the free throw stripe.

  • Okorougo poured in a career-high 27 points, shooting a career-best 12-of-15 from the field with a career-high three three-pointers, with two rebounds, a block and a steal.
  • Henry Vetter tallied 12 points with a season-high seven rebounds and two assists, while Tristan Davis logged his second career double-double with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
  • Drew Lazarre and Jared Berry added six points each, while Bangaly Berete, Paul Ippolito and Samuel Norris chipped in five points apiece off the bench.
  • Timmy Mulvey led the Beavers with a team-high 10 points, while Timmy O'Toole grabbed  a game-high 11 rebounds with four points.
 
Up Next:
  • The Bantams will look to keep things rolling to close the semester when they welcome the University of Hartford to Ray Oosting Gymnasium on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m.
